The insurance broker’s office at the Sheerness windmill, off High Street, has been decorated with the flags of each of the nations taking part in the delayed Euro 2020 tournament. And as teams crash out, theirs will be removed.
Staff have also been treated to new England shirts to wear on match days and they’re also running an office sweepstake, with three charities in the running to benefit.
The Sharrocks team, including employees based in Swindon and also the North West, have nominated Mind, the RNLI and Bliss, to take up the three remaining countries in the sweepstake.
Alan Doucy, Managing Director, said: “We’ve decorated the Windmill for the past few international tournaments and always had such positive feedback.
“Even though the office remains closed to members of the public for the time being, we hope people will appreciate our efforts.
“Not all of us are huge football fans, but the beauty of the Euros is that spirit of inclusivity and that everyone can get behind supporting our national team.”
As an extra surprise for staff, Sharrocks has been working with Wild Box artisan drinks, based in Selling, near Faversham.
Mr Doucy said: “We spoke to Laura Taylor, who runs Wild Box (wildboxevents.co.uk) as we’ve done a few of her online cocktail classes for team building during the pandemic.
“We wanted to do something special for the England vs Scotland match on Friday, June 18 so the office will be closing an hour early that day and Laura has put together a bespoke box of three cocktails for us to gift to staff and some key clients.
“Our staff work incredibly hard always, but have been particularly impressive during the past year with the pandemic and lockdowns – we’ve just had our busiest period in our 52-year history, so we like to recognise and reward that.”
And what about England’s chances?
“I really think it could be our year,” said Mr Doucy. “Let’s keep that England flag flying at the Windmill!”
